Aaron Austin
Hey everyone!
I developed SoleBreathing out of personal necessity. After spending 13 years working in the behavioral health industry I found myself completely burned out and disconnected from my body. For years my nervous system was dysregulated, resulting in emotional rumination, chronic pain, and constant frustration about what to do about it.
This simple practice has transformed my perspective on personal healing. I firmly believe in the power of self-inquiry and the ability to guide oneself towards inner understanding.
As you embark on your own journey, I would be thrilled to be a small part of it. Offering you my expertise and support is truly a privilege.
I have a master’s degree in Addiction Counseling from Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies and an undergraduate degree in Business Management. Although SoleBreathing is not therapy or a therapeutic practice, I do hold licensure as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and LCDC (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor) in Texas and an LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) in Minnesota.
I have worked in substance use treatment for over a decade as a therapist and director.
I currently have a small private practice where I see individuals for therapy as well as a consulting
business.
About SoleBreathing
The soles of our feet contain numerous nerve endings and are richly innervated. By focusing on the sensations in the soles of your feet, you can establish a heightened sensory connection, which means becoming more aware of your body and its physical sensations.
Emotions often manifest as physical sensations in the body. When you direct your attention to the soles of your feet, you engage in a form of interoception, which refers to the ability to perceive and interpret bodily sensations. By grounding your awareness in the soles of your feet, you create a pathway to better recognize and regulate your emotional states.
The feet are in constant contact with the ground, making them an excellent focal point for grounding exercises. Grounding involves connecting with the earth, energy and feeling rooted and supported. By concentrating on the soles of your feet, you tap into this grounding energy, which can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and restlessness.
